1. Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,

2. Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me. ;

3. When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;
Iov 18.6
The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him. ;

4. As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;

The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant. ;

5. When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

6. When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

And of Asher he said, Let Asher be blessed with children; let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in oil. ;Iov 20.17
He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter. ;Ps 81.16
He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee. ;

7. When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

8. The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.

9. The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.
Iov 21.5
Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth. ;

10. The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.
Ps 137.6
If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy. ;
