1. I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. ;

2. For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed unto him by God. ;Iov 27.13
This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty. ;

3. Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

4. Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

5. If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

6. Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.

7. If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

8. Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. ;Deut 28.30-etc
Thou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt build an house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a vineyard, and shalt not gather the grapes thereof. ;

9. If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

10. Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbor, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. ;Ier 8.10
